5/13/2005
AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Guthrie County 4-H member. Jinny Millhollin, Guthrie Center, received the Phyllis J. Olson 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation Phyllis J. Olson scholarship fund.
Millhollin, a 10-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Ron and Donna Benton and Paul and Darla Millhollin. She has served as president, vice president and treasurer of her 4-H club. Millhollin has participated most actively in the food and nutrition, textiles and clothing, visual arts and home improvement project areas. She has served on her county and area 4-H councils and the county youth committee and was a National 4-H Congress delegate. Millhollin received an Ak-Sar-Ben leadership award and a senior excellence award and was the Guthrie County 4-H fair queen.
"4-H has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The life skills I have learned through my project work, communications, citizenship and leadership activities have helped make me what I am today," Millhollin said. "I take pride in my community and want to volunteer my time to make it better. I have also become more outgoing and a stronger leader by organizing and taking charge in situations."
Millhollin is a freshman at Iowa State University where she is majoring in food science. She is a member of the ISU Presidential Leadership class, ISU Freshmen Council, the Dance Marathon dancer relations committee and the Student Alumni Leadership Council homecoming central committee.
