He served on his county and area 4-H councils and attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus conference in Washington, D.C. Schlichte has received county woodworking project awards and an outstanding senior award.

"Participating in numerous 4-H programs over the years has helped me to become a more well-rounded individual and this will continue to influence me the rest of my life," Schlichte said. "4-H has helped me to maintain high morals and values, striving to make the right choices when dealing with others and striving to be the best person that I can be."

Schlichte is a senior at Gehlen Catholic School, where he is involved in student council, technology committee and the Pioneer Machinery club. He plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College to study agricultural business.
