5/10/2005
AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Kossuth County 4-H member. Cody Holmes, LuVerne, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.
Holmes, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Dr. Jeff and Deanna Holmes. He has served as president, treasurer and photographer of his 4-H club. Holmes has participated most actively in the breeding beef, market beef, market swine, food and nutrition, animal science and woodworking project areas. He has served on his county 4-H council and exhibited beef at the Iowa State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben.
"Through my livestock projects I have learned responsibility and values. Through my 4-H club I have learned leadership. Through my involvement with county council I have gained friendships," Holmes said. "I feel these traits and experiences have made me a better family member, a better student and a better person."
Holmes is a senior at Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne High School. He plans to attend Iowa State University to study agricultural business and horticulture.
