Hardin County 4-H Member Receives Persinger-Asmus 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Hardin County 4-H member. Brooks Nelson, Ames, received the Persinger-Asmus 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Persinger and Asmus families.

Nelson, a 10-year 4-H member, is the son of Dan and Diane Nelson. He has served as president, vice president and reporter of his 4-H club. Nelson has participated most actively in the communication, photography, leadership and child development project areas. He has served on his state, county and area 4-H councils and was a National 4-H Congress delegate. Nelson has attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus conference and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. He has received state leadership and child development project awards.

"Through 4-H, I have gained an understanding of what it takes to be a good leader, communicator and citizen," Nelson said. "I would not have achieved or reached the goals I have set if it were not for the experiences I have acquired through 4-H."

Nelson is a freshman at Iowa State University where he is planning to major in political science. He is a member of Collegiate 4-H and is involved in the ISU Ambassadors, the ISU President's Leadership class and ISU Freshmen Council. Nelson also helped coordinate the Iowa 4-H Day at the Legislature.
