Franklin County 4-H Member Receives Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Franklin County 4-H member. Jacob Johansen, Latimer, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Johansen, an eight-year 4-H member, is the son of David and Karolyn Johansen. He has served as president, vice president and recorder of his 4-H club. Johansen has participated most actively in the woodworking, welding, crops, tractor and beef project areas. He served on his county 4-H council and youth committee and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Johansen has received county excellence awards and has restored tractors at the Iowa State Fair.

"4-H has given me a positive attitude and the opportunity to learn, meet other 4-Hers, participate as an officer in leadership, learn about communication, take part in community service projects and be involved in management and recording," Johansen said. "I have also learned how to achieve goals through 4-H."

Johansen is a senior at Hampton-Dumont High School. He plans to attend Ellsworth Community College and study agricultural science.
