Buena Vista County 4-H Member Receives Iowa Select Farms 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Buena Vista County 4-H member. Dustin Smith, Storm Lake, received the Iowa Select Farms 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Iowa Select Farms, L.P.
Smith, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Kent and Cindy Smith. He has served as president and vice president of his 4-H club. Smith has participated most actively in the beef, food and nutrition, photography, citizenship and leadership project areas. He has served on his county and area 4-H councils and his county youth committee. He has also attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and the Citizenship-Washington Focus conference. Smith has been a member of his county livestock judging team and received the Danforth "I Dare You," Ak-Sar-Ben, and Senior Achievement awards.
"4-H has taught me to be a goal-oriented person and to have a strong work ethic. I have gained a tremendous amount of leadership and communication skills that have and will benefit me greatly," Smith said. "I plan on taking the skills I have gained through my 4-H and beef projects and apply them to a business atmosphere."
Smith is a senior at Storm Lake High School. He plans to attend Iowa State University to major in agricultural business.
