AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Van Buren County 4-H member. Cale Plowman, Douds, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Plowman, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Richard and Lisa Plowman. He has served as president, treasurer, historian and photographer of his 4-H club. Plowman has participated most actively in the animal science, market beef, breeding beef, crop science and woodworking project areas. He has served on his county and area 4-H councils and his county youth committee. Plowman was on the winning Iowa State Fair livestock quiz bowl team. He also received the 2004 Van Buren County outstanding 4-H member award and the Danforth "I Dare You" leadership award.

"Through 4-H I have developed life skills and gained knowledge to make decisions and solve problems in other situations," Plowman said. "Along with the support and guidance of my parents and 4-H leaders, I feel 4-H has helped me prepare for a career in agriculture."

Plowman is a senior at Van Buren High School. He plans to attend Iowa Central Community College to study agriculture business.
