Mills County 4-H Member Receives Stranon 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Mills County 4-H member. Monica Ann McGrew, Emerson, received the Stratton 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Stratton Memorial and the Stratton family.
McGrew, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Stephen and Nancy McGrew. She has served as secretary, historian, reporter and treasurer of her 4-H club. McGrew has participated most actively in the horse, home improvement, citizenship, consumer management and woodworking project areas. She was active in her county 4-H council and county youth committee. McGrew also attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus conference in Washington D.C. She received the reserve senior pleasure champion horse trophy and the Mills County 4-H Cheney memorial home economics award.
"4-H has taught me important leadership skills. This has helped me go out on my own and choose a different major and college than anyone else in my class," McGrew said. "4-H has helped me become an independent person."
McGrew is a senior at Nishna Valley High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study animal science and animal ecology.
