Johnson County 4-H Member Receives Hills Bank-AFA Community 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $3,200 scholarship has been awarded to a Johnson County 4-H member. Katie Stutsman, Iowa City, received the Hills Bank-AFA Community 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust and the Agricultural Future of America.

Stutsman, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Jim and Jill Stutsman. She has served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club. Stutsman has participated most actively in the breeding beef, market beef, livestock judging, self determined and visual arts project areas. She has served on her county and area 4-H councils and was involved with the county 4-H youth committee. She has exhibited beef at the Iowa State Fair and AK-SAR-BEN and was a member of her county livestock judging team. Stutsman received a Johnson County leadership award and was the 2004 Johnson County Outstanding Farm Youth.

"My early experiences in elementary school in 4-H are what I think have been the most beneficial for me," Stutsman said. "I have always felt that I've been a step ahead of my peers thanks to 4-H and the many opportunities it gives its members."

Stutsman is a senior at Iowa City West High School where she is a National Honor Society member and the senior class vice president. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study agricultural business.
