Jackson County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Jackson County 4-H member. Will Cornelius, Bellevue, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.

Cornelius, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Chuck and Chris Cornelius. He has served as president, vice president, treasurer and reporter of his 4-H club. Cornelius has participated most actively in the market beef, breeding beef, photography, citizenship, and science and technology project areas. He has served on the state, county and area 4-H councils and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus conference. He exhibited market and breeding beef at the Iowa State Fair, and participated in the state fair 4-H clothing selection and 4-H communication events. Cornelius is also a Jackson County Beef ambassador and a youth member on the Friends of Jackson County Conservation Board and he received the Who's Who Among American High School Students Award.

"My 4-H career to date has taught me to be outgoing and strive for the best in everything I do. I have learned a great deal through my 4-H experiences," Cornelius said. "I know that I can be proud of my accomplishments because 4-H has taught me the basics of what I need to succeed in the cattle field."

Cornelius is a senior at Andrew Community High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was a two-time conference all-academic team member in basketball. He plans to attend Iowa State University and major in agricultural studies.
