Humboldt County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Humboldt County 4-H member. Kaitlyn Wiener, Humboldt, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.
Wiener, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Doris Wiener. She has served as president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club. Wiener has participated most actively in the horticulture, visual arts, photography, food and nutrition and home improvement project areas. She served on her county 4-H council and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. She has also received the Danforth "I Dare You" leadership award and Outstanding Club President award in her county.
"Being involved in 4-H has helped me to gain confidence. With the skills I have acquired through the variety of projects and opportunities in 4-H, I know I can succeed in anything I do," Wiener said. "My work in the food and nutrition project area has led me to decide on a career in food science. Without the guidance and encouragement of my leaders and Extension staff, I could never have achieved what I have."
Wiener is a senior at Humboldt High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Senate. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study consumer food science.
