Hamilton County 4-H Member Receives Schmalenberger 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Hamilton County 4-H member. Rachel Krumm, Boone, received the Schmalenberger 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Carl Schmalenberger Memorial Fund.

Krumm, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Tom and Bev Krumm. She has served as president, secretary, treasurer, historian and photographer of her 4-H club. Krumm has participated most actively in the dog obedience, communication, animal science, leadership and citizenship project areas. She has served on her county and area 4-H councils and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Krumm received a state dog project award and has been a frequent participant in the Iowa State Fair 4-H communication program.

"My experiences and participation in 4-H, especially in the dog obedience program, have influenced my decision to work with animals as a career," Krumm said. "I have also learned through community service and citizenship projects how important it is to be a leader in your community."

Krumm is a senior at South Hamilton High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study animal science and business.
