Crawford County 4-H Member Receives 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Crawford County 4-H member. Jessica Slavik, Schleswig, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.
Slavik, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Doyle and Rhonda Slavik. She has served as president, secretary, reporter and historian of her 4-H club. Slavik has participated most actively in the citizenship, communication, rabbit, photography and food and nutrition project areas. She has served on her county and area 4-H councils and her county youth committee. Slavik has won state project awards for citizenship and rabbit, and received her county's "I Dare You" award. At the Iowa State Fair she has exhibited rabbits and poultry and participated in 4-H rabbit showmanship and 4-H communication events.
"As a part of 4-H, youth have the chance to learn about any field or topic they wish," Slavik said. "Without 4-H, I would not have been steered so straightly or surely along the career path I have chosen. I believe it is important to become a good role model for the youth of tomorrow."
Slavik is a senior at Denison High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study animal science and pre-veterinary medicine.
