Chickasaw County 4-H Member Receives Schulte 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Chickasaw County 4-H member. Emily Throndson, New Hampton, received the Schulte 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Florine and Ron Swanson.

Throndson, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Rick and Donna Throndson. She has served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club. Throndson has participated most actively in the child development, clothing, food and nutrition and home improvement project areas. She has served on her county 4-H council and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Throndson won a citizenship award and volunteers in a third grade classroom at her school.

"Giving presentations and holding offices in 4-H have helped me with my public speaking skills. I've also learned how to work with all kinds of people and how to step up and be a leader," Throndson said. "4-H has also given me many opportunities to work with children, which has led me to want to be an elementary teacher even more."

Throndson is a senior at New Hampton High School. She plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to study elementary education.
