Chickasaw County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Chickasaw County 4-H member. Megan Seamans, Ionia, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.

Seamans, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Lawrnie and Patty Seamans. She has served as president, vice president, historian and junior leader of her 4-H club. Seamans has participated most actively in the citizenship, visual arts, food and nutrition, child development and photography project areas. Seamans received state project awards in citizenship and food and nutrition. She has participated in the Iowa State Fair 4-H communication events and the Iowa State Fair Camera Corps, and received recognition for several state fair exhibits. She received an outstanding senior 4-H'er award and a Danforth "I Dare You" leadership award.

"4-H has helped shape me into who I am by helping me find my future career and by teaching me lifelong skills and hobbies," Seamans said. "Through fair projects and Communications Day, I have been given the opportunity to explore or expand on ideas or projects that interest me. I have greatly strengthened my communications skills, which will benefit me in the future."

Seamans is a senior at Nashua-Plainfield High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study child and family services.
