Boone County 4-H Member Receives Orscheln 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Boone County 4-H member. Kayla Toms, Boone, received an Orscheln 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Orscheln Farm & Home Supply Co., Inc.
Toms, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Jeff and Carla Toms. She has served as vice president and secretary of her 4-H club and as a member of her county 4-H council. Toms has participated most actively in the photography, food and nutrition, cat, self-determined and visual arts project areas. Toms has received a county merit award and achievement awards and is a junior cat project leader. She was also a 2004 Iowa State Fair Camera Corps participant.
"To me, 4-H means being able to communication with others successfully, being a leader and volunteering my time to help others. In return, that has helped me to become a better person," Toms said.
Toms is a senior at Boone High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the women's varsity golf team. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study agricultural business.
