AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Boone County 4-H member. Jennie Hansen, Ames, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.
Hansen, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Barb Osborn and Ray Hansen. She has served as president and treasurer of her 4-H club. Hansen has participated most actively in the sheep, horticulture, visual arts, home improvement and beef project areas. She has served on her county and area 4-H councils and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Hansen has received a county merit award and county gold sheep and beef awards.
"4-H has helped me develop great leadership and record keeping skills," Hansen said. "Throughout my years in the organization, I have had the opportunity to try many project areas and get involved in areas that interest me. I feel that 4-H has played an important role in helping me to become a good citizen of my community and my state."
Hansen is a senior at Boone High School. She plans to attend Kirkwood Community College and enroll in the agriculture transfer program.
