Jones County Student Receives Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Jones County student. Matt Wahl, Monticello, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"I realized how important effective communication and goal setting are to be a good leader," Wahl, the son of Eric and Janine Wahl, said.

Wahl has been involved in several activities including National Honor Society, football, basketball, soccer, drama and choir, and was the president of International Club and Panther Players. He was named the most valuable player of football special teams and soccer, and earned recognition as a first team All-District kicker in football.

A recent graduate of Monticello High School, Wahl plans to attend Wartburg College.
