Floyd County Student is Working as Life in Iowa Intern
AMES, Iowa — Amanda Goddard, a sophomore at Iowa State University majoring in agricultural business, is working for Chickasaw County Extension in New Hampton this summer as part of Iowa State University Extension’s Life in Iowa intern program.
Goddard, whose hometown is Charles City, is a summer youth aide. She works with youth and adult volunteers and helps with office duties.
Each Iowa State Life in Iowa intern donates 100 hours of time over the summer to a community volunteer project. In addition to her work for the extension office, Goddard is volunteering with the Chickasaw County 4-H Program. She is helping with county fair preparation including volunteer recruitment and marketing efforts. She also will help with the summer day camp program serving as a camp counselor for children in kindergarten through third grade.
The Life in Iowa program encourages students to stay in Iowa after college graduation by involving them in the communities in which they are working. The interns complement their work experience with classroom learning and service projects that help them experience the people, businesses and organizations that make Iowa a great place to live and work. The program encourages students to develop leadership, ethics and service skills that will help them in the future.
