7/1/2005

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Plymouth County 4-H member. Ryan Baldwin, Morrill, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Baldwin, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Dennis and Debra Baldwin. He has served as president and vice president of his 4-H club. Baldwin has participated most actively in the sheep, dairy, woodworking and citizenship project areas. He served on his county 4-H council. Baldwin has exhibited citizenship projects at the Iowa State Fair and received outstanding junior, intermediate and senior awards.

"I've learned responsibility by caring for livestock, grooming and getting ready for shows," Baldwin said. "Most important, I've learned citizenship is giving back to the community. Responsibility, organization, cooperation and citizenship are life skills I've acquired through 4-H."

Baldwin, a recent graduate of Hinton Community High School, plans to attend Western Iowa Tech Community College.
