___(Name)___, ___(Town)___ has completed the second session of a three-part curriculum in municipal management that leads to professional certification. The five-day Municipal Clerks Institute was conducted by Iowa State University Extension July 18-22 in Ames. Topics for the session ranged from writing ordinances and resolutions to group dynamics and team building.

The session included a review of written communications used in city council business. There were presentations on community development, the use of the Internet, election administration, conducting effective meetings, working with elected officials and fire service management.

The program is sponsored by the ISU Extension Office of State and Local Government Programs in conjunction with the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association. Instructors include ISU faculty, extension staff, bonding attorneys, accounting experts and city clerks who have completed the Institute. The Iowa State University program was one of the first offered in the United States, and is among the largest of 44 similar programs offered in other states and Canadian provinces.

Participants in session 2 will have the opportunity to attend the final session of the three-part curriculum in July 2006.
