Note to media editors: Use before Jan. 27

1/18/2005

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa Beef Center (IBC) at Iowa State University (ISU) is offering informational Webcast that will introduce the concept of fixed-timed artificial insemination (AI) and the updated "Synch04" edition of the Estrus Synchronization Planner. The Webcast will be broadcast on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. to 24 locations around the state. A list of counties offering the program is provided below.

Cliff Lamb, University of Minnesota beef reproductive research specialist, and Daryl Strohbehn, ISU Extension beef specialist with the Iowa Beef Center, will talk about updates in this area, how it can help beef producers better manage production and answer questions about using fixed-timed AI and "Synch04."

The Synch04 edition assists producers with planning and implementing complicated synchronization programs. However, the new edition has several new, exciting features:

* 22 estrus synchronization systems, in three categories, including fixed-timed AI, estrus detect with clean-up AI, and estrus detect AI systems
* Recommendations of various systems for cows and heifers
* A daily calendar of activity, once producers have selected their preferred system and breeding dates
* Budgeted cost analysis of the various synchronization systems

These 24 ISU Extension County offices will make the Webcast available.
