AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Union County 4-H member. Megan Brown, Afton, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.
Brown, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Kenny and Sheila Brown. She has served as president, vice president and historian/reporter of her 4-H club. Brown has participated most actively in the market beef, breeding beef, swine, leadership and citizenship project areas. She received the Reserve Champion Division I Steer award and top honors on other projects at the Iowa State Fair. Brown has been president and vice president of County 4-H Council and a member of the County Youth Committee. She also has attended the Iowa 4-H Conference and visited Kansas as a part of the 4-H Exchange Program.
"Through my 4-H experiences I have gained a tremendous amount of leadership skills as well as the ability to communicate with youth and adults," Brown said. "Growing up on a family farm and being involved in the 4-H organization has taught me the value of honesty, hard work and responsibility."
Brown recently graduated from Creston High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University and major in agricultural studies.
