AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Winneshiek County 4-H member. Kaitlin Hanson, Decorah, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.

Hanson, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Randy and Lisa Hanson. She has served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club. Hanson has participated most actively in the dairy, photography, personal development, clothing selection and woodworking project areas. She was named the Top 4-H Dairy Judging Junior Individual and received dairy showmanship awards at the Iowa State Fair. Hanson has attended the Iowa 4-H Conference.

"4-H has made me a stronger leader and more willing to step up and take charge of things," Hanson said. "4-H also has made me more of an outgoing person and willing to meet new people."

Hanson, a recent high school graduate, plans to attend Iowa State University to study agricultural business.
