8/24/2005
CHAPIN, Iowa -- Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Franklin County Soil Conservation District are hosting a pasture walk on Monday, Sept. 12, at the Larry Froning farm west of Chapin. The pasture walk will focus on grazing systems for beef and sheep producers.
“We’ve designed the agenda to be very comprehensive,” says Russ Euken, ISU Extension livestock field specialist. “The pasture walk will include discussion on interseeding of legumes into existing grass pastures, managing pastures through rotation and haying, water crossings and watering systems.” Additionally, information on cost share funds available for pasture improvement will be provided.
According to Euken, the national animal ID system and Quality Systems Assessment programs which will be a requirement for beef export to Japan will also be discussed. The Froning farm is located 1.5 miles west of Chapin on county blacktop C23. The address is 1360 210 St.
The pasture walk begins at 5:30 p.m. and a light meal will be served. Please RSVP to the Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office at (641) 456-2157 for the meal.
