AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University (ISU) Extension is returning to its hoop building at the 2005 Iowa Farm and Field Fest near Boone Aug. 30 through Sept. 1. This year ISU will offer demonstrations, exhibits and speakers.
“Three different manure applicators will be demonstrated at the show,” said Kapil Arora, ISU Extension agricultural and biosystems engineer. “ISU Extension specialists, Natural Resources Conservation Service staff and industry experts will be available to answer questions relating to soil compaction, weight limits, regulations, calibrations and residue management.”
The demonstrations will be held at 11 a.m. each day of the show and at 2 p.m. on the first two days of the show in the demonstration site northwest of the main entrance.
The ISU Cyclone Power Pullers also will be doing demonstration pulls each day at 3 p.m. with their ¼ scale tractor. The rest of the time these agricultural and biosystems engineering students will have their tractors on display outside the ISU Extension hoop building.
The hoop building will feature exhibits on:
- Invasive species of Iowa
- ISU Department of Ag and Biosystems Engineering Celebrates 100 years
- A look at a modern dairy farm
- Tips on moving grain safely from the field to farm or market
- Overview of Asian soybean rust
- Update on soybean aphids in Iowa
- Results from a survey of Iowa cattle producers
- Iowa Pork Industry Center
- A look at Iowa's vineyards and wineries
- Overview of the Master Gardener program upcoming classes schedules
Visitors also will be able to order publications from ISU Extension and MidWest Plan Service and listen to Doug Cooper do live broadcasts of ISU Extension Market News on WOI Radio.
Show goers can participate in a technology survey and earn a chance to win an iPod mini.
Several ISU Extension faculty and staff members will present at the show. In the Forum Tent, ISU Extension experts will discuss the role of women in agriculture, Asian soybean rust and the agriculture weather outlook. In the Family Living Tent, ISU staff and faculty will discuss the USDA’s new food pyramid, grape growing in Iowa and gardening with children.
