McNay Research Farm Beef Field Day

8/4/2005

CHARITON, Iowa -- A beef fall field day is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Iowa State University (ISU) McNay Research Farm near Chariton.  The field day includes a wide variety of topics and experts from ISU, ISU Extension and Dow AgroSciences.

“The agenda for our field day includes sessions on Canada thistle management, the ISU beef breeding program, pasture improvement with frost seeding and beef mortality composting,” said Joe Sellers, ISU Extension field specialist.  “In addition, ISU staff will report on research progress, including that of pink eye, respiratory disease and reproduction.”

The field day begins at 4:30 p.m. at the bull shed on the McNay farm, followed by sessions at the farm’s headquarters and a free supper prepared by the Lucas County Cattlemen.

There is no pre-registration and the field day is free of charge to attendees due to the generosity of sponsors, including Lucas County Extension, Rathbun Lake Forage Project and Dow AgroSciences.
