NatureMapping Program

Mapping

The basic map for Iowa NatureMapping is the U.S.G.S. 1:24,000 topographic map (also called a "7.5 minute quadrangle"). These are available for every part of Iowa. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has maps for the entire nation (though not all at this scale).
Maps may be purchased through USGS Map Sales offices, Iowa Geological Survey Bureau, map vendors, or on-line. A city street or land use map may be helpful, especially if your area is undergoing a lot of growth, and the USGS maps may be outdated. Hunting and fishing atlases, plat maps, and gazetteers are also handy maps. You may also obtain USGS maps and coordinate information on-line.
