The Muscatine County Extension Council is seeking a qualified individual to provide executive director leadership for the organization as its next County Extension Director. Primary job responsibilities of this Regular part-time potential to be full-time position include educational program planning and delivery, budget and facilities management, and day-to-day supervision of staff. Will directly coordinate agricultural and natural resources programming, as well as community economic development, and Human Sciences programming. Individual is also responsible for marketing and public relations efforts, including positively representing Muscatine County Extension to an array of community partners.

Food Preservaton 101
August 4, 2014

United Way of Muscatine has started a new program with Blue Zones project called Food Policy.  The Food Policy group wanted to collect canning supplies for those who have the supplies and are not using them anymore to give to those who want to start canning.  The group then is pairing with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to provide a canning class to help those preserve their fruit and vegetable produce so they can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Muscatine County Extension is offering the Homegrown Lifestyle course which is a 12-week Extension short course for folks eager to reconnect to the land, grow their own food, and create a sustainable personal farmscape. Weekly sessions will consist of webinars taught by state specialists and locally-coordinated activities at each site. The course also includes visits to local farms and gardens to experience sustainable food production first hand.

  •  Information on lawn, garden, and landscape plant questions is available from ISU Extension staff.

  • Images and information on a wide range of common pest and non-pest insects encountered in the home, yard and garden.

  • Information on Pesticide Applicator Training, Integrated Pest Management, and related environmental programs.
