Lake 4-H Members Helping Haiti Victims
Members of the Lake 4-H Club in Muscatine County collected more than 1,000 empty, non-recyclable dog food and other livestock feed bags to turn them into something useful for the people of Haiti. The bags can become tarps or they can become bags with handles and be made very useful--some may even be used to sleep on.
The project is being funded by a $150 grant from DuPont Pioneer which has been awarded to the club along with the 4-H Loren Kruse Grant in the amount of $1,000 that has been awarded to Claudia Putnam, leader of the Lake 4-H Club.
The bags were packaged by members and their parents. They cannot be mailed and have to be taken by plane to be delivered. Putnam has a relationship with ServeHAITI representatives through the St. Mary Parish in Nichols,Iowa, and they will deliver the bags to Haiti where they will be put to good uses.
