Blue Zones Project - Food Policy

Food Preservaton 101

United Way of Muscatine has started a new program with Blue Zones project called Food Policy.  The Food Policy group wanted to collect canning supplies for those who have the supplies and are not using them anymore to give to those who want to start canning.  The group then is pairing with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to provide a canning class to help those preserve their fruit and vegetable produce so they can be enjoyed throughout the year.
The canning class, Food Preservation 101, which will be presented by Vera Stokes ISU Field Specialist, is being offered on August 13, 2014, at MCSA in the basement.  The cost is $10.00 per class.  There will be two separate class times.  10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  For those who attend the class, we will have some canning supplies that will be given out, along with coupons for Hy-Vee to buy canning supplies.  For more information, contact the United Way of Muscatine.
