Yahoo searching

Searchenginewatch reports on Yahoo's new search capability:

Yahoo is rolling out a brand new search engine today, with its own index and ranking mechanisms, casting aside its long-standing use of Google-powered search results. The move is bound to roil the industry and sets in motion a new race for the claim of web search champion.

Dang. Just when I was starting to get familiar with google optimization.

I wonder how many people will use this, or switch to it. It seems to me that Google :: Search engines as Microsoft IE :: Internet browsers. They are so deep rooted, that it will be very hard to see a shift from one to the next. Then again, we did see this happen from Netscape to IE. But maybe it's not a fair comparison.

If Longhorn has a really good, built-in, search engine, I wonder if people will switch to it, in the same way they switched from Netscape.
