Children are constantly bombarded by TV and the Internet with advertising for high-sugar, high-fat foods, toys and clothing. The ads are cleverly designed to make sure children will want to own whatever is being sold.  “I want! I Want!! I WANT!!!: Building Good Consumers” is the title of an online workshop from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. All child care providers and interested parents can participate in the workshop from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on October 2, 2013.

Children drive billions of dollars of adults’ purchases. This workshop will examine advertising and consumer culture and offer ways to reduce its effects on young children.  Take a close look at what advertising doesn't want you to know and learn about the effects of marketing on children.
