If you are interested in showing a bucket/bottle calf at the Montgomery County Fair this summer, it is time to sign up. There will be 2 classes for bucket calves. There will be an open class and a 4-H class.
The open class is for pre 4-H’ers in kindergarten through 3rd grade. The 4-H class is for 4-H’ers in grades 4-6.
Any newborn or orphan calf, steer or heifer, dairy or beef, that is calved between March 1 and May 15 may be shown. If purchased, the calf must be purchased and in possession of the exhibitor within 2 weeks of birth. Calf must be identified on the livestock ID form that is due back to the Extension Office by May 15th. Two photos of the calf(s) should be taken. One photo should be put with your project records and the other sent in with your ID form. The calf must be bucket or bottle fed.
Exhibitors may identify two calves, but are limited to one calf to be exhibited at the county fair. If you are going to have a bucket/bottle calf, you need to stop in at the Extension Office and pick up a packet of materials. The ID form and other information are due back at the Extension Office by May 15th.
