Learn to more effectively feed your cows…and your bank account!  An educational program for beginning and early-career beef producers will be held in Red Oak on December 14 at 6:30 pm at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds White 4-H Exhibit Building. The program will help producers improve their production and financial management skills. Financial tools will be introduced, and learning will be hands-on in a workshop session. Presenters include Iowa State University Extension and Outreach field specialists, Chris Clark and Tim Eggers.

A Southwest Iowa Beginner and Young Farmers group will kick off in Montgomery County on December 14, 2016. The Start to Farm: New Farmer Learning Network, organized by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, is a statewide program designed to provide education and support for beginning and early-career agricultural producers.

ISU Extension and Outreach Montgomery County is celebrating CyDay Friday on October 28th by providing Harvest Hospitality to Montgomery County farmers, truckers and residents. Join us in our front parking lot at 400 Bridge Street from 2 pm to 4 pm as we distribute cookies, apples, refreshments and Cyclone gear to area farmers, truckers and residents.

The Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) has received several questions from southwest Iowa producers about corn mold this harvest season. Based on producer descriptions of black mold or black dust that becomes airborne when the plants are disturbed, common corn smut is the most likely culprit in many of these cases.
