Good intentions and knowledge about health are not enough to make people healthy. Unless older adults actively do something, their health status does not improve and may even decline more rapidly. Each session in Eat Smart, Live Strong focuses on changing behavior by guiding participants in learning and practicing new skills.

The emerald ash borer, a destructive and invasive insect of ash trees, has been discovered in central rural Montgomery County. Iowa’s growing number of counties with confirmed detections has now reached 27.

ISU Extension and Outreach in Montgomery County is celebrating CyDay on September 11 in Red Oak and Stanton at their respective high school football games, as well as in Villisca on September 15 at the middle school football game.  We invite you to stop by our table to get a Cyclone tattoo, sign up for a door prize including ISU athletic tickets, and learn more about Extension and Outreach!

The featured theme for this year’s Armstrong Research Farm’s garden field day is “Gardens of North and South America.”  Food tastings will feature heirloom tomatoes, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, corn, beans and squash.  Homeowners looking for new and heirloom plants to try in their yards and gardens will have a nice variety of vegetables and flowers to view at the annual field day.
