Thank you for your continuous support of Montgomery County 4-H and FFA programs! Over 160 youth participated in the 2016 county fair and we are gearing up for another great year ahead.  We are pleased to present you with wonderful sponsorship opportunities. We recognize our sponsors play a vital role in the overall success of 4-H and FFA at the Montgomery County Fair year after year. Therefore, we have developed a sponsorship program including different levels to fit all budgets.

Food Preservation 101is a two-hour overview of general food preservation principles. The class includes current recommendations for canning, freezing and drying, display of equipment and utensils and sources for safe and tested food preservation information.

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Montgomery County received a $1,000 grant for its Beginning and Young Agricultural Producers program. Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) provided the Working Here Fund grant to support a yearlong educational program focused on the business end of farming.

Walking School Buses and Afterschool Programs will kick off on Wednesday, April 5th for youth in Red Oak. The Walking School Bus program is available to youth enrolled in 4th – 8th grades.

Women, Land & Legacy of Southwest Iowa is excited to present “Women Gaining Ground,” a one-day conference designed to be fun and empowering for women from all walks of life.  The conference will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Glenwood High School. This year’s keynote speaker will be Juli Burney, an award winning teacher, entertainer and author. Juli’s credentials include the ability to entertain like a headline comedian while inspiring audiences with the ease of a top-notch motivational speaker.

Learn to more effectively feed your cows…and your bank account!  An educational program for beginning and early-career beef producers will be held in Red Oak on December 14 at 6:30 pm at the Montgomery County Extension Office. The program will help producers improve their production and financial management skills. Financial tools will be introduced, and learning will be hands-on in a workshop session. Presenters include Iowa State University Extension and Outreach field specialists, Chris Clark and Tim Eggers.

The 2016 Montgomery County 4-H Awards Celebration was hosted by the County Youth Council.  Several youth from Montgomery County were recognized for their efforts through the year in their 4-H project areas as well as for their record keeping skills.  The awards celebration is also a way to recognize and thank all of the many outstanding volunteers and sponsors who have donated their time, skills, and effort to promote the growth of the Montgomery County 4-H program.

The Start to Farm: New Farmer Learning Network, organized by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, is a statewide program designed to provide education and support for beginning and early-career agricultural producers.
