The final results and awards program for the 2008 Livestock Judging Circuit was held on Tuesday, August 12 in the Livestock Pavilion at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
The Monroe County 4-H program sponsored 2 teams over the summer. Team #1 which consisted of Jordan Crall, Cody McCarty, Colton Shull and Colin Herbold captured the 2nd place honors in the Junior 4-H division.
Colton Shull took the 4th place overall individual and was presented a special award. Other Monroe County 4-H members placing in the top tend were Jordan Crall 6th, Colin Herbod 7th and Cody McCarty 9th.
Other Monroe County 4-H members that competed at one event throughtout the circuit were Mikayla VandenBerg and Hunter Gerths. Volunteer leaders are DeeAnn Crall and Mark Herbold. The advisor for the 4-H livestock judging team is Angela Tratchel, Monroe County 4-H Youth Coordinator.
Monroe County 4-H members have been competing throughout the summer of 2008 at numerous Livestock Judging Circuit Events. The members have attended contests in Story, Dallas, Monroe, Ida and Cass Counties. "The 4-H Program gives high regards to the educational values obtained through Livestock Judging" says Tratchel. "This type of educational program improves critical thinking skills, builds self confiedence and gives the building block to team skills which are all imporant life skills that employers so desire in this day and age".
