Show adds new features
With a theme of "Seeds of Change," the seventh annual Siouxland Garden Show has many new aspects.
- A third day has been added; the show will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- A "make and take" center has been added to allow attendees to practice what they learn and leave the show with a jump start on their lawn and garden projects.
- The new location – Sioux City Convention Center at 801 4th St., Sioux City, Iowa – better accommodates the space needed for increased exhibitors and additional educational opportunities. The main hall features 50 exhibitors showcasing the newest products and hottest trends and services.
Siouxland Garden Show speakers and events
Columnist and author Jan Riggenbach leads off the show on Friday at 12:30 p.m. by sharing Big Ideas for Smaller Gardens.
One of the nation's leading herbalists, Jim Long, will be presenting throughout the weekend. Long will share how to grow and use the 10 most popular herbs and will challenge show goers to take a fresh look at salsa. Forty-seven educational seminars, how-to sessions and make-and-take workshops are scheduled to inspire and motivate even the greenest gardener.
The Children’s Corner will offer free, fun and interactive activities for youth to learn a love for gardening and explore a rain forest setting.
Vendors of the Siouxland Garden Show offer a variety of door prizes, with the grand prize built during the garden show. Bill McAnally, McAnally Consulting, will build a garden shed out of salvaged materials, some of which were salvaged from the Siouxland area. Metal roofing, barn wood, windows and additional materials salvaged during the de-construction of barns, outbuildings and homes will be used to build the shed. Attendees will be able to watch the progress as materials are added to the shed throughout the show. The garden shed will be given away during the door prize drawing on Sunday, March 24.
