Local Women Invited to Boots to Heels Conference February 23
Women in Southwest Iowa are invited to a day of fun, learning and friendship during the seventh annual Boots to Heels Conference on Saturday, February 23rd. The conference runs from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Cass County Community Center in Atlantic. The local planning committee is excited to have a dynamic lineup of speakers scheduled for the one-day conference, to focus on the interests of women living and working in rural Iowa.
“Boots to Heels started as a day to recognize and celebrate rural women and the many roles and responsibilities they have in our local communities,” says Kate Olson, program coordinator with Cass County ISU Extension. “We have a great mix of attendees every year; some come for the first time, others return and bring friends; we’ve even had whole groups attend together! There truly is something for everyone, and each year we hear how much fun the ladies have, and how much they have learned. We are very excited to be going into our 7th year of this fantastic event!”
The conference will start off with the keynote address “Kids, Crops, Cows and Sows- Life Happens, Learn to Bounce!” delivered by the energetic “Susie O”. Susie Oberdahlhoff is a city-born preacher’s kid turned farm-wife and mother. Her unique perspective, wit and gift for storytelling encourages people to laugh at life and learn at the same time. Weaved throughout her stories, Susie incorporates her 4 P’s of Prosperity and reminds audiences of the importance of learning to bounce through life’s twists and turns.
Throughout the day, conference participants will be able to select from twelve unique topics during four workshop sessions. Break-out topics include Financial Planning, Health and Nutrition, Sustainable Gardening, Hands-on crafting and more! Each presenter has a wealth of knowledge in their respective field and will provide practical tips based on first-hand experience.
Treats for the taste buds also await conference-goers, as breakfast, lunch and a special dessert are served up by locally-owned businesses. While attendees eat lunch, a representative from Western Iowa Tourism will share fun ideas for local trips and destinations in Southwest Iowa. Door prizes, a festive atmosphere and plenty of time for conversation and networking will truly make this an event not to be missed!
Registration for the entire day, which includes all sessions, a continental breakfast, lunch, dessert and materials, is just $30 if postmarked by February 15th. Registrations postmarked after that date, or at the door are $35. Registration forms with a full schedule are available at local ISU Extension offices, local sponsoring businesses or online at the link below.
