SW Iowa 4-H Jr. Camp--A walk on the wild side. While everyone else is bored with the same old stuff like hanging out in the back yard or watching TV, you can be: Learning how to climb up a 50 foot high wall and rappelling back down. Rowing to the front of the pack in your sleek canoe. Searching for creatures of the night through night hikes. Playing water volleyball. Discovering all the creatures that live in the cool water during the creek walk. Making new friends. And lots more!!!! This is just a brief sample of the great activities happening at camp this summer.

Calling all campers, aged 14 to 18. The Iowa 4-H Center plans to host two wilderness trips this summer, says Abbie Parker, program specialist at the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid.

Nearly 700 Iowa 4-H youth, families and friends cheered on the Iowa State University Women’s Basketball team during 4-H Day at Hilton Coliseum. The fourth annual event attracted 4-H’ers from throughout the state.
Parent-Child Cell Phone Debate Continues

Parents can exert a measure of control over their child’s mobile phone use by limiting use, checking its contents and using it to monitor the whereabouts of their offspring. However, with a few exceptions, these activities by parents do not seem to impact patterns of cell phone use by teens, according to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach family life specialists.

Iowa 4-H Foundation Announces New Peyton Family Scholarship

Sue and Harold Peyton of Sac County have established the Peyton Family Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Iowa State University student in a major related to agriculture who will be a sophomore, junior or senior in fall 2012.
Cass, Decatur, Taylor Counties Add 4-H History Online

Cass, Decatur and Taylor counties have added their 4-H history to Iowa 4-H History by County, a blog detailing the history of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development. The history blog is a partnership of the Iowa 4-H program and the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

Donate Grain and Invest in Iowa’s #1 Crop: Youth

By donating grain, farmers can support Iowa’s number one crop, youth, say officials with the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Donations to the Iowa 4-H Foundation can be designated to county 4-H endowments, for statewide use or for both purposes.
