4H in Mills County is all about fun, friends, voice and choice.  We want you to have a great experience!  Try out different clubs and find the one that fits your schedule and makes you feel great!  Fun is something we all like to have!  4H activities, events, workshops and more make fun happen!   riends- join a club to be with them, or join a club to make new ones!  Your voice matters- in 4H we want to hear what you like to do and what you want to try- share what we can do to make your experience the best!  Choice is a HUGE one- so many options of things you can do and try.  4H lets you reach for the stars and see what really makes you tick.  You may suprise yourself!  Grow and share in a safe and warm place!  4H is all you want it to be!

Cattle producers and others with interest in pasture management are invited to a pasture walk on the evening of September 8th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The walk will take place at the Jon Bakehouse farm located at 55757 370th St, north of Hastings.   The Mills-Montgomery Cattlemen will be grilling ribeye sandwiches for attendees to be served at the end of the evening.

Come join other 4-H SESS youth involved in Archery and Air Rifle in Southwest Iowa on Sunday, September 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for a Fun Match. We have two big objectives:  Meet other youth invovleved in 4-H SESS in SW Iowa and test some of your skills you have been learning at 4-H SESS Meetings and workouts through a fun competition. Learn how you can take part in this fun day of 4-H SESS Archery and Air Rifle.....

The Iowa 4-H Aquatic Robotics Program

This new curriculum and programming using the SeaPerch robot for teams of youth to do water quality testing in local water bodies, streams or ponds. The program has partnered with IOWATER Citizen Water Testing Program to assess the quality of the water in local watersheds. Youth are doing real water quality research assessing Physical, Biological and Chemical qualities of the water bodies or streams that they are studying.

Did you know that residents of Southwest Iowa (*) spend over 370 million dollars on food annually?  Over 90% of this food is produced in other states and countries.  Are you interested in finding out more about where to find fresh local produce, meats and dairy in our area?  Are you a producer of any of these locally grown foods?  Would you like to have your producer information published in a Local Food guide for Southwest Iowa?

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, through a grant funded by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Services Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, will conduct Level 1 and Level 2 GAP Workshops for fruit and vegetable producers in the Spring of 2014.
These one-day workshops are important for growers who want to better understand how GAPs can be used to meet buyers’ food safety requirements.  The training will provide assistance in writing  and implementing GAPs for  those  interested in  both wholesale  and direct marketing. The key instructors will be Dr. Angela Shaw, Dr. Catherine Strohbehn, Heather Snyder and Linda Naeve.
