Local residents and beef producers looking to learn more about pasture improvement and how pasture management impacts water quality can attend a free June 24 workshop presented by the Union Grove Lake Watershed Project. The event will take place from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Randy Sienknecht farm, 2262 C Avenue, rural Gladbrook. The Sienknecht property is located south on C Avenue from the southwest corner of Union Grove Lake, rural Gladbrook.
Grazing systems, interseeding, and pasture seeding mixes will be discussed by Denise Schwab, Iowa State University Extension Beef Specialist. Jim Ranum, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Grazing Specialist in northeast Iowa will share fencing and watering options. Tama County USDA-NRCS District Conservationist Larry Jones will provide information on cost-share programs available on a local level and riparian Conservation Reserve Program practices will be presented by District Forester Joe Herring from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
