Mandatory COOL (Country of Origin Labeling)
There is an excellent website for those wanting to know more details about Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) that went into effect in 2008. The Iowa COOL Coalition developed a simple affidavit that can work for all species of livestock (beef, sheep, swine, poultry, goat). This affidavit is located at: http://www.iowabeefcenter.org/content/COOL_IA.htm
Page 1 explains the steps and Page 2 is the actual affidavit.
- If you are a 4-H’er that raises your own livestock then you will need to fill this out and keep it on file for a minimum of 2 years in case of an audit.
- If you are a 4-H’er that purchases your animals from another person then the producer must fill this out and the 4-H’er must keep this on file for a minimum of 2 years.
Check out an informational publication that has been developed regarding basic information about COOL (County of Origin Labeling).
