Livestock Exhibiting Information
Helpful Hints for Exhibiting Livestock
If you are a first-year livestock exhibitor or just need to refresh your mind, then this document is for you!
STATE FAIR & AK-SAR-BEN INFO:
If you plan to exhibit livestock or horticulture (incl. Dogs) at the Iowa State Fair, click here for more information! You will still need to complete an official registration form (online via 4hOnline) by July 1, 2013. More State Fair exhibiting info can be found at the bottom of this page. Help Sheets for completing this process can be found at www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/enrollment.
If you plan to exhibit livestock (incl. Dogs) at Ak-Sar-Ben, visit http://www.rivercityrodeo.com/ for more information. You will still need to complete an official registration form in early August. More info about registering will be posted in the spring 4-H Newsletters.
LIVESTOCK WEIGH-IN WAIVERS:
Member/Parent Waivers are available at the Extension office and only required for Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show. Waivers are no longer required for county and state fair animals.
ADVANCED FEEDER PEN INFO:
Advanced Feeder Pen Spreadsheet - Must be filled out and turned in to the MCEO by the 15th of each month following initial weigh-in. Final record sheet due to MCEO by July 15. (This is the spreadsheet for Cattle & Lamb Feeder Pens and can be filled out online and emailed or by hand and mailed/dropped off.) Exhibitors have the option of turning records in together at the county fair weigh-in. If youth use this option, records must be together in one folder or binder and organized by month.
COOL & PREMISE ID INFORMATION: Premise ID # is required for all Swine Exhibitors
COOL & PREMISE ID INFORMATION - Find Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) and Premise ID Information here. COOL forms are NOT required by the Extension office. All exhibitors need to keep their COOL papers in their own files.
How do Youth Obtain a Premise ID Number?
The Premise ID must be for the farm where the animals are being cared for—if that is not where the 4-H’er or FFA member lives, they will need the owner of the property where the animals are being cared for to submit the form and the 4-H’er/FFA member would use that number. The form may be accessed and submitted on the web at http://www.iowaagriculture.gov/animalIndustry/pdf/premiseIDapp.pdf. It is important that youth obtain a Premise ID Number immediately to be eligible to exhibit and sell animals at the county fair. It may take several weeks to receive the number, so it is important to complete the application right away.
Questions/Premise ID application status: IDALS, 1-888-778-7675.
