Market Broiler Special Division – 2013

The Market Broiler Special Division is a “rate of gain” poultry class, which is modeled after a similar class at the State Fair. Any Madison County 4-H/FFA exhibitors wishing to participate in the competition must order their chicks from the Extension Office, using this form. The broiler chicks are:

  • From the same hatchery
  • Born the same day
  • Straight run (may receive hens and roosters)
  • Delivered to the Extension Office on Thursday, June 7, 2013
  • Must be picked up by participants at the Extension Office on Thursday, June 7, 2013

Market Broiler County Fair entries:

  • Pen of five (either sex)
  • Each bird in pen must weigh within 2 pounds of the others in the pen
  • Exhibitors may bring 1 extra bird to be weighed but may show only 5
  • Birds must be clean and healthy to be judged
  • Judging is based on the weight of the entire pen
  • Entries are limited to one entry per exhibitor
  • Clover buds may bring broilers to fair to weigh, however, Clover Buds will not be included in weight-gain contest results or be eligible for trophies/rosettes

Each exhibitor may purchase a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 chicks at $1.22 per chick. Exhibitors must fill out the participation form, return it to the extension office with paymentfor the chicks by Friday, May 3.
