PORK QUALITY ASSURANCE PLUS® and TRANSPORT QUALITY ASSURANCE® Training Sessions Scheduled

(Cherokee, Iowa). The Iowa Pork Industry Center and Iowa State University Extension are teaming up to provide necessary training for pork producers. Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) Plus® training will be held in Cherokee on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Cherokee County Extension Office, 209 Centennial Drive, Suite A, Cherokee from 10 a.m. to noon. Transporter Quality Assurance ® (TQA) training sessions will also be held Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Cherokee County Extension Office at 1 p.m. Fee is $25 each for these sessions.

2012 Iowa Pork Regional Conferences slated for March 7 in Sheldon

(Sheldon, Iowa) — The Iowa Pork Producers Association has teamed up with the Iowa Pork Industry Center and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach swine specialists to host regional conferences March 6-9. Date and location for the northwest Iowa conference is on Wednesday, March 7 at Northwest Community College, Building A, room 119 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ATTENTION Manure Applicators - Reshow Policy

Lyon County Extension will reshow both the Commercial and Confinement Manure Applicator Programs on the second Thursday of each month, beginning March 8, 2012, for those that were unable to attend a workshop. If you need to schedule a reshow at any other time, you will now be charged a $10 fee per person.

PQA Plus® was developed by the Pork Industry Animal Care Coalition to be a continuous improvement program. TQA was introduced in 2002 by the Pork Checkoff as a quality assurance program designed specifically for transporters, producers and handlers of pigs.

Farmers from northwest and west central Iowa participated in comparing field-length, replicated, field-scale trials. Some projects that are compared include: corn and soybean fungicide use, corn and soybean populations, tillage comparisons and others.

Dry Manure Applicator Certification Workshops Offered by Extension

These workshops meet manure applicator certification requirements for both confinement site manure applicators and commercial manure applicators who primarily apply dry or solid manure.
