FoodCorps is a national service program that connects kids to healthy food in school.
They are a team of AmeriCorps leaders who serve in high-need schools to make sure students learn what healthy food is, fall in love with it, and eat it every day. They focus their service on delivering hands-on lessons in gardening, cooking, and tasting healthy food; improving school meals; and encouraging a school-wide culture of health.
In Iowa, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach acts as the State Partner for FoodCorps Iowa, overseeing FoodCorps programs across the state and helping recruit, select, and evaluate service members and programs. ISU Local Food Team member Lynn Heuss is Site Supervisor for FoodCorps Iowa (along with team leader Craig Chase), and works closely with FoodCorps Iowa State Fellow Chelsea Krist to support the 11 Iowa-based FoodCorps service members in their work across the state.
