Stress Management Techniques

Research shows that people who practice mind body skills are more resilient to the negative effects of stress.

ISU Extension & Outreach Family Life specialist, Kristi Cooper, created these videos for the certified Class Leaders of the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program.  The videos, recorded in 11 different Iowa counties, have also been used by Extension staff in the western Iowa counties affected by flooding in 2011. In 2012, 24 women in agriculture participating in the NE Iowa Annie’s Project series, benefited from the videos so they, their spouses and extended family members could learn to relax, increasing coping skills during financial strain and peak farm work periods. The videos are also used by ‘graduates’ of the mind body medicine classes conducted in Linn & Johnson counties. Cooper received advance training with the Center for Mind Body Medicine as a result of the Flood of 2008 in eastern Iowa.  She co-founded the Eastern Iowa Mind Body Medicine Coalition which secured funding to conduct free 8-10 week stress reduction classes for flood affected non-profits, businesses, schools and individuals.

Try implementing these techniques into your daily routine!  You, too, can learn to relax and ease stress no matter what is happening in your life.
