Urban Farm Summer Camp
Come spend a week at the Cultivate Hope Urban Farm near downtown Cedar Rapids!
3rd-5th grade students are invited to join Matthew 25 to explore local foods and see up-close how plants grow. Hands-on activities will allow participants to dive in, get their hands dirty, and have fun while learning about where food comes from. Activities will include art on the farm, learning about healthy soils, field trips, and cooking farm-fresh foods that participants harvest themselves!
Choose from two camp sessions:
Camp Session 1:June 16-20
Camp Session 2: August 11-15
Time:9:00 am – 3:00 pm*
Cost: $160 (for 1 session)**
Overview of Camp Activities:
Monday:Farm tour, plant cycle, & art on the farm
Tuesday:Composting, healthy soils, & a field trip to Linn Co. Solid Waste
Wednesday:Field trips to a small farm, large farm, & food co-op operations
Thursday:Cook on the farm, learn about farmer’s markets, prepare projects
Friday:Work on & present farm projects using a variety of technology
Lunch: Participants should bring a sack lunch Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday. On Thursday the group will prepare lunch together using fresh farm produce.
Location of Camp: The camp will meet daily at the Matthew 25 office: 201 3rd Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids. (The Matthew 25 Urban Farm is located at the corner of 6th St. NW and G Ave. NW.)

*Optional extended day available: 8:30 am early drop off 3:30 pm late pick-up. There is a $5 charge for early drop off and a $5 charge for late pick up (this must be arranged ahead of time by marking days on camp form.)
